Your Opportunity: The Service Worker I assists nursing staff in maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe patient care environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing and cleaning hemodialysis equipment for patient use, restocking all bedside supplies, transporting patients, blood specimens, charts and supplies, as well as performing other duties as assigned. This position is based in 5B1 Hemodialysis at the University of Alberta Hospital. Description: As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. Classification: Service Worker I Union: AUPE GSS Unit and Program: Hemodialysis Unit, Alberta Kidney Care-North Primary Location: U of A Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 1.00 Posting End Date: 23-SEP-2026 Temporary Employee Class: Temp F/T Benefits Date Available: 03-OCT-2026 Temporary End Date: 27-SEP-2027 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 60 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $22.33 Maximum Salary: $24.38 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications: Grade 12 or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Must be able to lift a maximum of 40 lbs. several times a day. High degree of motivation and good organizational skill required. Demonstrated good communication skills, able to read, write and speak English fluently. Demonstrated ability to work as a team, work under supervision or independently. Preferred Qualifications: Previous training or recent Service Worker experience in a hospital setting is desirable. Familiarity with hemodialysis equipment and supplies is an asset. Upon successful completion of the one-week orientation with a Clinical Nurse Educator, the service worker will be able to proceed to unit to start one week of buddy shifts as assigned by the hiring manager.

Exigences

Candidates must have a Grade 12 education or equivalent and possess a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS-HCP) certification. Applicants must be physically capable of lifting up to 40 lbs and demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills.
