General Information Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities such as majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the temporary part-time Cashier Receptionist position at the Ticket Centre of the Cowichan Community Centre within the Community Services Department. This temporary position is available for up to one (1) year, ideally starting in September 2026. Reporting to the Administration & Facility Booking Coordinator, the Cashier Receptionist is responsible for the reception duties within the Cowichan Community Centre at the Ticket Centre. This includes meeting and greeting the public, answering telephone and in-person inquiries, routing information, and performing a variety of other tasks such as program registration, ticket sales, and merchandise sales. Qualifications Secondary school graduation plus cash / clerical / computer training, or an equivalent amount of education, training, and experience. Related experience, in a customer services capacity and working with cash and balancing daily cash receipts, or equivalent combination of skills, education, and training. Familiarity with the operation of standard business equipment, including computers and a multi-line telephone system. Hours of Work This temporary part-time position is guaranteed 17.5 hours of work per week and may be scheduled up to 35 hours of work per week based on meeting operational needs. Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to work a variety of shifts including days and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Salary Wage rate in 2 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $27.46 - $28.29 per hour (2026 rates).
