Position Information **Position Title** Part-Time Academic (MUSC 2024.03. Guitar History & Techniques 1) - Fall 2026 **Posting Number** PTAP3345P **Department/Unit** Fountain School of Performing Arts **Location** Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada **Job Summary & Key Responsibilities** This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of **MUSC** **2024: Guitar History and Techniques 1**, from **September 1 to December 31, 2026**. This course will introduce students to the various styles of guitar playing from classical to jazz to folk. This term covers the history of the instrument (including lute and other related plucked instruments) and an examination of guitar building techniques and guitar maintenance. Practical guitar instruction will include basic chord playing, music reading (first three strings) and melody playing. The basic rudiments of music theory will also be covered. The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, marking student assignments, developing course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. In addition to course time, the instructor is required to hold office hours for student consultations. The instructor is expected to announce the end-of-term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts. All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University. **Qualifications/Requirements of Position** Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Music; proven experience in the teaching of guitar – university teaching experience preferred; significant knowledge of guitar history and repertoire; computer literacy.Please apply online, with a copy of your curriculum vitae and a cover letter. **Salary Range/Pay Rate** Per CUPE Collective Agreement **Additional Information** All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
