Thunder Bay Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Sioux Lookout Who We Are Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI). Vision Statement To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language. Position Summary Respite workers will step in when the oniikihiikomaak or onihtaawikihaawasook and odoobikihaawaso need to take a break. They will provide primary care to awaashish or oshkaadiz, who are 15 years old and under, on a temporary basis, and be relied upon to perform their duties with patience and compassion. Duties & Responsibilities Performing general household duties, such as cleaning, cooking and shopping. Maintaining a hygienic and safe environment. Making sure awaashish and oshkaadiz are fed, cared for, bathed. To become familiar with any with any Wiijihiiwewin Onajikewin (Support Plan), Kanawenjiikewin Onajikewin (Care Plan) or Sakakentaakosowin Onajikewin (Safety Plan) that may be in place before they start working with any awaashish or oshkaadiz. After respite services have been completed, record any progress on any plan(s), note any routine, activities, events that happened, or concerns or positives comments they may have on the Respite Form: DO. To receive intensive training on KIDO and its MDK Service Model. Must maintain confidentiality of workplace information and events, and sign an Oath of Confidentiality form. Qualifications A minimum of 2 years of experience as a respite worker. Available to work irregular hours, including night shift, weekends and holidays. Extensive experience in supervising and assisting awaashish and oshkaadiz and engaging them in suitable activities. Ability to ensure safety of awaashish and oshkaadiz and provide comfort. Exceptional ability to show love and compassion and be dedicated to awaashish or oshkaadiz. Demonstrated patience, humility, respect, consistency, discretion and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles. Understand that KIDO is based on language and kayaash egwa mina ahchaako kikinohamaakewin (traditional and spiritual teachings) revitalization. Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is based on love, compassion, healing and reconciliation. Must have a thorough understanding of the whole scope of KIDO. 11. Working knowledge of CRP and first aid. Ability to communicate/understand KI language, Anishininiimowin. Ability to travel (KI, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay). Must submit clean Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks. Exigences
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a respite worker with the ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Must possess knowledge of Indigenous culture, hold valid CPR and First Aid certifications, and pass a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
