Quality Improvement Student Location: Toronto-661 University Department: Quality This posting is to fill a current vacancy. The Role: Public Health Ontario is looking for a student to join our Quality Improvement (QI) team. One of PHO’s strategic directions in the 2024-29 Strategic Plan is to “accelerate moving evidence to action as the convener and integrator of expertise on public health issues and drive quality improvement for public health.” This student role is an opportunity to contribute to foundational quality improvement work, applying critical thinking, process improvement, written communication, and data and analytical skills to support provincial QI work and planning. Duration: until end of March 2027 (up to 6 months) Hours of work: Up to 21.75 hours (3 days) per week Key Responsibilities- Reporting to the Manager, Quality Improvement, you will perform the following responsibilities: Develop and/or update reporting templates for use to support comparative quantitative data, trend analysis, and qualitative input. Support data collection and perform data analysis, including with data quality considerations. Contribute to the development of emails, slides, infographics, and/or other products to meet the needs of target audiences. Contribute to the development of tools such as process maps to outline processes as well as support QI planning and prioritization. Apply critical thinking skills in working with internal and/or external partners to understand current processes, identify opportunities, and outline next steps for QI initiatives. Share insights and reflections to help co-design QI work. Become familiar with PHO’s policies, procedures, and processes (e.g., Privacy, Data & Digital) and support activities related to these areas. Support planning and coordination for provincial QI meetings (e.g., QI Collaborative), including secretariat support, meeting logistics, documentation, and provincial-local initiatives, as needed. Work collaboratively with members of the QI team, colleagues, and public health units to produce high quality products and deliverables. Knowledge and Skills- Strong analytical skills, including related to data analysis and/or research. Strong written communication skills, with ability to apply these skills to different products and audiences. Knowledge of quality improvement and/or process improvement/optimization methodologies and tools. Strong time-management and organizational skills, including ability to use project management tools (e.g., creating or updating Gantt charts). Ability to apply critical thinking skills, including at a system-level. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Education and Experience- Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program which focuses on Public Health, Health Administration, Math, Science, Technology, or Industrial Engineering. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with SharePoint website management is an asset.
