Job Description General Description Seven Generations Education Institute (SGEI) employs a full-time Clinical Lead Registered Nurse in Health Disciplines who directly answers to the Associate Director in Health Sciences. The Clinical Lead Registered Nurse is responsible for leading and overseeing SGEI’s student clinical placements. The Clinical Lead Registered Nurse is responsible for leading and overseeing SGEI’s student clinical placements and ensures learning centres Anishinaabe knowledge and values. They will respond to student needs, help address student issues to facilitate learning, and coordinate clinical placements and preceptorships by hiring, scheduling, supporting, and providing performance management for instructors and students while liaising with personnel at placement facilities. Qualifications and skills requirements 1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). 2. Minimum one (1) year of supervised experience as an RN. Experience in a breadth of clinical settings preferred. Previous instructional or supervisory experience considered an asset. 3. Current BLS Certification. 4. Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). 5. Active participation in professional associations preferred, e.g., Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. 6. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written). 7. Strong interpersonal skills, and the proven ability to build strong working relationships. 8. Highly developed organizational skills, and proven ability to manage competing priorities. 9. High degree of proficiency using common office software and working knowledge of videoconferencing and learning management systems preferred. 10. Well established working relationships with local clinical partners preferred. 11. Demonstrated ability to handle conflict, resolve disputes and manage people. 12. Proficient at evaluating academic performance and setting goals for success. 13. Ability to undertake quality improvement initiatives and ongoing evaluation of clinical courses. 14. A good understanding of cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities. 15. Strong understanding of cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, and cultural competence with the ability to apply in a classroom and clinical setting. 16. Understanding of the challenges faced by Nursing students in the classroom and in placement settings, and ability to support students in navigating these challenges. Supervisor: Associate Director of Health Sciences Job duties/responsibilities 1. Oversee/supervise/manages clinical Instructors for programs in Health Disciplines on the course/curriculum delivery, scheduling of simulation lab and clinical placements, the evaluation of student progress, student success plans, and maintaining records of student performance. 2. Plans and confirms student clinical placements. 3. Assists in simulation lab activities. 4. Work with partnered Colleges, Universities, and Health Care agencies to meet quality standards. 5. Participates in program accreditation processes. 6. Participates in planning/developing curriculum. 7. Working with the Nurse Coordinator/Instructor in Health Disciplines to deliver programming. 8. Acting as a clinical, educational resource for nursing faculty and personnel. 9. Facilitating the learning process and evaluating clinical learning outcomes. 10. Planning, coordinating, and evaluating student performance. 11. Participating in educational activities within the clinical placement agencies and SGEI. 12. Helps to ensure that constructive working relationships exist with our education partners, clinical partners, staff and students. 13. Supports students as required to help ensure that they are successful. 14. All instructors are required to attend professional development training sessions. 15. Performing other related duties as required/assigned. Relationships Internal 1. Interacts and reports directly to the Associate Director of Health Sciences 2. Responds and Interacts with the Director of Post-Secondary Education 3. Responds and interacts with students and other staff within Seven Generations Education Institute External 1. Liaise with clinical partners. 2. Liaise with education partners as required. 3. Liaise with other external agencies. Working conditions • Conduct site visits at community health agencies for evaluation of student clinical placements. • Occasional travel may be required for events that require SGEI’s health program representation. • Works indoors in climate controlled, semi-private office settings, may be exposed to moderate levels of noise on occasion. • On rare occasions may be exposed to behaviourally difficult students or members of the public. • Normally a seven (7) hour workday, with occasional to rare requirement for overtime. • Demanding and sometimes stressful. • Occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. required. • Moderate periods of sitting at a desk, with the ability to change positions. • Nature of work requires a high degree of manual dexterity. • A high degree of concentration is required for prolonged periods during classroom instruction, and clinical placements. Conditions of Employment • Must provide satisfactory vulnerable sector check. • Must possess valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation. • Must have and maintain current registration in good standing with CNO.

Exigences

Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and have at least one year of supervised experience as a Registered Nurse. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and BLS Certification are required.
