What You’ll Do The Program Assistant – Children and Youth will facilitate community based child and youth programs. Participate in the implementation and assist in monitoring and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework. _________________________________________________________________________________________ What We’re Looking For Life and Work Experience Experience working directly with child and youth Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers Your Education Path Post secondary education in a related field Required Language Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of French an asset. Specific requirements Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations Current CPR level C, First Aid Food Handlers and High Five Certification, an asset What You Bring to the Table Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques Effective at communicating and problem solving _________________________________________________________________________________________ Your Day-to-Day at a Glance As our Program Assistant – Children and Youth your responsibilities are: Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program Assists to plan programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development Implements and assists to monitor, and evaluate community based programs Assists to register and maintain files and daily attendance for each child registered and participating in community based program Provide updates and contacts parents when necessary Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres Ensure all program safety measures are being met Works closely with volunteers and student placements _________________________________________________________________________________________ Somerset West Community Health Centre is an equal opportunity employer who values the diversity of individuals in our programs and services. Exigences

Requires post-secondary education in a related field and experience working directly with children and youth in diverse community settings. Must possess a criminal reference check for vulnerable populations and fluency in English.
