ENVIRONMENT SPECIALIST Company: Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time Work Schedule: Two weeks on/two weeks off Location: Ekati Mine Site, Northwest Territories POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Environment Team Leader, Operations, the Environment Specialist supports environmental sampling and monitoring programs at the Ekati Mine Site. This field-focused position supports regulatory compliance, fisheries and aquatic effects, air quality, reclamation, and wildlife-monitoring programs. The Environment Specialist also performs related office and laboratory work, maintains environmental equipment, and works collaboratively with other specialists, consultants, and site departments. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience while contributing to a diverse range of environmental programs in a northern mining environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Review and follow applicable work instructions and participate in job hazard analyses for environmental sampling programs. * Attend safety meetings and complete Personal Safety Cards daily. * Conduct fieldwork supporting environmental sampling and monitoring programs, including the Surveillance Network Program, Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program, and Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program. * Work with Environmental Specialists and consultants to complete assigned activities, including: * Stage-discharge measurements at hydrometric stations. * Pump inspections and water sampling. * Wildlife monitoring and response. * Air-quality measurements. * Support office and laboratory activities, including bottle preparation and shipping, filing field-data sheets, completing quality assurance and quality control checks, processing wildlife-camera footage, and assisting with compliance reporting. * Prepare and maintain environmental monitoring equipment, including calibrating equipment, reviewing gear checklists, and completing minor repairs to sampling devices. * Conduct remote fieldwork in changing and occasionally challenging weather conditions. * Work safely from boats and travel by helicopter when required. * Follow all workplace health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. * Perform other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree. * A minimum of three years of directly related technical or project-execution experience. * Knowledge of environmental regulations, monitoring programs, and analytical techniques. * Mining-industry experience is considered an asset. * Experience working in northern Canada and knowledge of the northern regulatory environment are considered assets. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES The successful candidate will demonstrate: * A strong commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental responsibility. * Knowledge of environmental sampling and monitoring practices. * Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. * The ability to work independently and collaboratively in field, office, and laboratory settings. * The ability to complete physically demanding fieldwork in remote locations and changing weather conditions. * Care and accuracy when collecting, recording, reviewing, and managing environmental data. * A respectful and collaborative approach when working with colleagues, contractors, consultants, and other site departments. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The successful candidate must obtain and maintain the required security and medical clearances for access to the remote Ekati Mine Site. The position requires the ability to work a two-weeks-on/two-weeks-off rotational schedule, perform remote fieldwork, work safely from boats, and travel by helicopter. TRAVEL Transportation to and from the Ekati Mine Site is provided from designated pick-up locations, which may include Calgary, Yellowknife, and applicable northern communities.
