IT Portfolio Business Analyst

Our client is supporting a civil engineering firm that is modernizing its IT environment and is seeking an experienced IT Applications Portfolio Business Analyst to assess its application landscape and identify opportunities to consolidate and rationalize business applications. The consultant will build an enterprise application portfolio, interview business stakeholders to understand application usage, identify duplicate functionality and consolidation opportunities, and support application rationalization initiatives that will improve the client's overall IT environment. Responsibilities Build a comprehensive application portfolio across business functions Conduct structured interviews with stakeholders across Finance, HR, Operations, and IT to understand application usage and business processes Document business applications, ownership, usage, dependencies, and lifecycle status Identify duplicate applications, overlapping functionality, and consolidation opportunities Uncover shadow IT, departmental SaaS tools, and undocumented legacy applications Assess the application landscape and provide recommendations for rationalization and optimization Produce clear, executive-ready documentation and application catalogs Collaborate with IT and business leaders to support application portfolio modernization efforts Qualifications 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, IT Analyst, or similar role with direct experience in application portfolio discovery or application rationalization engagements Hands-on experience conducting application portfolio assessments and application rationalization initiatives Strong understanding of IT management frameworks such as ITAM and ITSM, and application lifecycle management concepts Demonstrated experience conducting stakeholder interviews across multiple business functions Experience identifying duplicate applications, shadow IT, SaaS subscriptions, and legacy systems Working knowledge of enterprise applications including ERP, HRIS, ITSM, GIS, document management, collaboration platforms, and field operations tools Strong discovery, analysis, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to produce executive-ready deliverables Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Visio or similar process mapping tools is an asset Prior experience in professional services, engineering/construction, or other project-based organizations is preferred Exposure to BST Global ERP or similar project accounting ERP platforms is a plus Experience supporting private equity-backed portfolio companies is an advantage Start: ASAP Duration: ~4–8 weeks, with potential follow-on phases Time commitment: ~120–240 hours total engagement Location: Remote Expected rate: $75 - $100/hour Project ID#: 9096 *This is a contract role that does not offer health benefits
