Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly influence how the next generation of AI reasons through complex, real-world problems? We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Engineers to help train cutting-edge large language models — not by writing code for a product, but by teaching AI how to think.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for experienced ML practitioners who want meaningful, high-impact work on their own schedule. You'll work alongside leading AI research teams to create the structured reasoning data that makes LLMs smarter, more reliable, and more capable in the real world.
Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an AI plans, uses tools, and makes decisions step by step Lead the design of structured data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate, multi-step technical scenarios Review and mentor reasoning trace outputs to ensure clarity, logical soundness, and rigorous documentation of decision-making Apply senior-level architectural insight to decompose sophisticated ML problems into clean, well-reasoned solution paths Contribute directly to training pipelines that improve how AI models behave in real-world deployments
Who You Are
Experienced machine learning practitioner with a strong foundation in model reasoning, architecture, or evaluation Skilled at breaking down complex technical problems into clear, structured, logical steps Familiar with advanced LLM training and evaluation methodologies Detail-oriented and rigorous — you care about the quality of your reasoning, not just the output Comfortable working independently and asynchronously in a remote environment
Nice to Have
Prior experience with data annotation, data quality systems, or AI evaluation pipelines Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level), demonstrating deep understanding of model performance and feature engineering Background in AI research, applied ML engineering, or technical consulting Experience designing or critiquing reasoning chains, chain-of-thought prompts, or agent workflows
Why Join Us
Work on some of the most technically challenging and consequential AI projects in existence Fully remote and async — work when, where, and how you work best Freelance autonomy with access to genuinely cutting-edge AI research and tooling Direct, visible impact on how advanced LLMs reason and perform in production Collaborate with a global network of top-tier AI researchers and engineers Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
