About the role

Senior Process Engineer

Location: Cambridge, Ontario (On-site) Type: Full Time, Permanent Shift: Day shift, with flexibility during equipment commissioning and start-up

ABOUT SMARTER ALLOYS Smarter Alloys is a world leader in shape memory alloy (SMA) innovation, pioneering advanced SMA based materials and devices for medical, cleantech, transportation, and beyond. We are a fast moving, high growth company with aggressive production targets and a world class technical team based in Cambridge, Ontario. We are looking for a driven, execution focused Senior Process Engineer to procure, commission, and validate new production capability and bring it online.

THE ROLE As our Senior Process Engineer, you will own the establishment of new material production lines from end to end. You will take a major capital project from vendor selection and equipment specification through installation, commissioning, and process validation, then use data to bring it to reliable, qualified production. This is a build role, not a maintain role. You will define what we buy, secure it, stand it up, prove it out, and hand off a validated, well-documented process to operations. You need to be comfortable making decisions under uncertainty, holding vendors and timelines accountable, and grounding your calls in data.

WHAT YOU WILL DO Lead the procurement of major capital equipment: define technical specifications, evaluate and select vendors, and secure supply and service agreements for a new advanced materials processing line Plan and manage the installation, commissioning, and start-up of high-temperature and thermomechanical processing equipment Develop, characterize, and validate manufacturing processes (IQ/OQ/PQ) to qualify the line for production within our Quality Management System Apply statistical analysis, statistical process control, and data analytics to optimize process parameters, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement Build the process documentation, work instructions, and control plans, then transition the line into steady-state manufacturing alongside operations, quality, and engineering

WHO YOU ARE 5+ years in a process, manufacturing, or materials engineering role, with a degree in Materials, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering Hands-on experience commissioning capital equipment or standing up new production lines Strong grasp of physical metallurgy and high-temperature / thermomechanical processing of metallic materials Fluent in data: you drive projects and decisions through statistical analysis, not gut feel Strong project manager and communicator who holds vendors and timelines accountable and escalates clearly when something is off track

STRONGEST CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE Familiarity with nitinol, shape memory alloys, or other specialty and advanced metallic materials Experience with high-temperature metallurgical processing and/or thermomechanical processing operations Exposure to ISO 13485 quality environments or other regulated manufacturing frameworks, and formal process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) Experience with automation, process control, and materials informatics Project management credentials (e.g., PMP) or equivalent capital-project experience

WHAT WE OFFER Competitive compensation package with full benefits and paid vacation Opportunity to work on novel technology with real commercial impact in growing markets Autonomy and ownership: you will own this project end to end, not inherit someone else's process A collaborative, fast moving team that values initiative and results over process and politics

WORKING WITH SMARTER ALLOYS We are a small, innovative, and fast-moving company at the cutting edge of the smart materials industry, with applications spanning medical/dental, automotive, energy, consumer electronics, and sporting goods. We have aggressive growth goals and are looking for someone who is ready to grow with us. We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community we work in and encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups, including women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people identifying as LGBTQ2SI+, veterans, and people with disabilities.
