Emera Inc. is seeking a Co-op, Corporate Accounting & Tax student for the Fall 2026 term (September 7 to December 18). This 16-week opportunity offers a unique blend of experience in both corporate accounting and tax, providing valuable, hands-on exposure to a wide range of financial operations.
As part of both the Corporate Accounting and Corporate Tax teams, you’ll gain firsthand experience with the corporate financial close process, support the preparation of Canadian tax compliance and information returns, conduct tax research, and assist with cross-affiliate transactions. This role is ideal for students looking to build a strong foundation in both disciplines within a dynamic and supportive corporate environment.
What you’ll do:
As a co-op student, you’ll contribute to key financial and compliance processes while developing technical skills that are vital to your future in finance or accounting.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Perform full-cycle accounting duties, including journal entries and monthly bank/account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly intercompany billings, categorize charges for tax reporting, and complete related reconciliations
- Support the annual expense report audit
- Assist with monthly HST return filings for multiple corporate entities
- Complete Statistics Canada survey submissions
- Contribute to the preparation of Canadian Corporate Information Returns and other CRA compliance filings and audit requests
- Take on various ad hoc tasks in support of the Corporate Accounting, Tax, and broader Finance teams
Work term outcomes:
By the end of your work term, you will have developed an intermediate understanding of:
- Full-cycle corporate accounting practices
- Canadian corporate tax compliance and reporting
- The financial structure and operations of Emera and its affiliated companies
This experience will provide you with a solid launchpad for a future in finance, accounting, or tax-related roles.
Who you are:
You’re a proactive, detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, with a desire to grow your knowledge and contribute to meaningful financial work.
You bring:
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks across teams and deadlines
- A strong work ethic, analytical thinking, and a collaborative mindset
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and SharePoint
- Previous accounting or tax experience (an asset, but not required)
- A sharp eye for detail and a passion for learning
