Job Details:
Position Title: Part-Time Professor, English Language Program (Humber-Kansai Gaidai University Partnership)
Status: Part-time teaching contract
Hours: 18 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences
Campus/Location: Kansai Gaidai University, 16-1 Nakamiya Higashinocho, Hirakata, Osaka 573-1001, Japan
Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.

About the Professor, English Language Program role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a combination of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Preparation, Workplace Communication, and Canadian Society & Culture curricula at the KGU campus in Osaka. The successful candidate will teach a full range of courses and skills in the program, primarily in the EAP area and TOEFL and IELTS exam preparation courses, including reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, grammar, research, and study/exam skills. They will also participate in the refinement and redesign of the curricula, define and evaluate learning outcomes, develop appropriate learning materials, and provide academic counseling to students with special consideration for the unique international context of the program. The incumbent will also be expected to collaborate with other members of the program within KGU, as well as staff within Humber’s FLAS, to support student pathways, provide mentorship, and contribute to the overall program and partnership.

Education
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- TESL Canada/Ontario accreditation (OCELT is preferred)
- a minimum of two years’ teaching experience in a Canadian or International post-secondary public or private sector environment in ESL programs
Experience/Skills
The successful candidate must:
- have the ability to participate in a program orientation in Toronto
- be able to live in Japan for a minimum of 9 months
- demonstrate cultural competency to develop and deliver culturally responsive curriculum
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, the ability to work with students of varied educational and cultural backgrounds, and well-developed interpersonal skills. They will be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture.
