Course Number and Name: DMU406H1/MUS3805H MAX/MSP Course Description: Max is a visual programming language for music and media with an emphasis on interactivity. This course will cover the Max language and environment, MIDI, external and programmatic control, sequencing, synthesis, sampling, spatialization, signal processing, granulation, and analysis. Coursework is practical, with a focus on designing and implementing software for live performance, culminating in a final project. Previous computer programming experience is not required. Class Schedule: Tuesdays 1-3pm in the Fall term Months of contract: September to December 2026 Salary: $9,997.48 Estimated Course Enrollment: 34 TA support: yes Qualifications: Graduate degree in music technology and digital media or related field. Extensive professional experience in developing interactive live performance systems in Max. Expert knowledge of relevant current software and hardware, including familiarity with Max, Apple or Windows hardware, and third-party externals. College/university teaching experience desirable. Duties: Define course objectives; prepare course materials; provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations; teach classes as scheduled; administer and evaluate student assignments; prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy.
