About the role
Our Client is seeking a Senior GIS Developer to support the upgrade of business-critical GIS applications from legacy Geocortex technology to the next-generation VertiGIS platform.
The successful candidate will provide senior technical leadership in the design, development, integration, testing, implementation, and support of enterprise GIS solutions. This role requires strong experience with Esri technologies, VertiGIS/Geocortex, Microsoft Azure, GIS infrastructure modernization, and web application development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the analysis, design, development, integration, testing, and implementation of GIS applications
Upgrade existing Geocortex applications to the supported VertiGIS platform while preserving current functionality
Design and develop scalable GIS web applications and supporting services
Provide senior technical expertise across all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle
Translate business requirements into technical designs and specifications
Develop integrations with enterprise GIS data, geoprocessing services, portals, databases, and external systems
Support GIS infrastructure, networking, cloud modernization, and application deployment activities
Provide technical leadership, project coordination, effort estimates, progress updates, and implementation support
Troubleshoot production issues and support incident-management activities
Develop and maintain installation guides, technical documentation, build books, and support procedures
Mentor junior technical resources and provide guidance on development standards and best practices
Ensure solutions align with GO-ITS standards, AODA requirements, security expectations, and service-delivery objectives

Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and AJAX
Strong experience gathering requirements and translating business documentation into technical specifications
Experience developing complex applications using relational and multidimensional databases
Experience leading technical activities throughout the full SDLC
Communication and Leadership
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Experience collaborating with business stakeholders, developers, business analysts, project managers, and technical teams
Ability to resolve technical issues and build consensus on project direction
Experience leading development or application-support teams
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and decision-making skills
Additional Assets
Experience with Ontario Public Sector projects
Experience within the Land and Resources I&IT Cluster
Knowledge of GO-ITS standards and government project-gating processes
Knowledge of Information Management principles, policies, and practices
Experience with cloud deployment, preferably Microsoft Azure
Understanding of GIS spatial data, geoprocessing, analysis, and enterprise mapping solutions
Experience supporting Commercial Off-the-Shelf and custom enterprise applications
Knowledge of accessibility requirements, including AODA
