Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching BIOL / MARI 3680.03, “Scientific Diving Methods in Ecology”. The course will be offered in the summer session, August 13 – August 31, 2026, Monday through Sunday, approx. 0805-1725.
Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director and keeping related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates in preparation for the course and marking assignments.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus, or out on field trips if appropriate. The position reports to the Chair of the department.
Qualifications/Requirements Of Position
A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience directly related to the topic of the course. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course. Must be a certified SCUBA diver, having obtained a diver master or instructor level certification. Preference for candidates with demonstrated experience of supervising students underwater, previous experience with the 3680 class would be an asset.
