Designated Substitute Teacher – 1.0 FTE – Interim
North Middle School Campus
Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largest public
charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campuses throughout the city. We
offer educational programming through a distinctive Direct Instruction Teaching and Learning
Framework (DITLF) that has been refined and developed within the Alberta context for students
from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to provide a safe and caring environment where
the four pillars of our charter, namely academic excellence, character development, parental
involvement and staff leadership are valued and fostered.
The following position will be open at our North Middle School Campus of Foundations
for the Future Charter Academy to begin August 26, 2026 until June 25, 2027.
Subject: Designated Substitute Teacher
Contract: 1.0 FTE Interim
Salary: $350/day
This position is eligible for employer-paid extended health and dental benefits (single coverage)
for a contract length of 4 months or greater.
Responsibilities:
This position will provide substitute teacher coverage on a daily basis including supervision if
necessary.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the following qualities:
- A passion for teaching and learning and a positive, enthusiastic attitude;
- A supportive and caring manner with children and a belief that all students can learn;
- The ability to provide an inviting and secure classroom environment for students – one
with clear expectations, consistent consequences, and specific, articulated learning
goals;
- A belief in a structured learning environment where the results of our collaborative and
individual efforts are monitored and guide the process of continuous improvement;
- The ability and desire to deliver the FFCA program effectively in order to meet the needs
of all students, while being prepared to meet the individual needs of children as they
arise;
- A commitment to using instructional technologies to develop his/her own and students’
proficiencies;
- An openness to coaching and mentoring as part of overall professional development;
- Collegial communication skills, including the ability to listen and the conviction that
concerns and ideas need to be presented openly in an atmosphere of trust;
- A desire to work in a team environment of partnerships among campus grade-level
partners, campus colleagues and cross-campus colleagues, as well as with
administrators and parents;
- A willingness to contribute to school culture through committee work and extra-curricular
activities;
- A belief in continuous learning and a desire to continuously improve.
