Job Duties
- Provide one-to-one or group support to students through the following tutoring modes: online, drop-in, appointment-based, or workshop.
- Provide support to students with the writing process, as well as provide support with paragraph and sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and overall organization and style according to discipline and writing context and assist with formatting citation documentation (APA, MLA, CSE, IEEE).
- Assist students with learning success skills and strategies in the online or face-to-face environment.
- Assist in identification of study resources appropriate to support specific course content and share with students to improve their individual learning habits.
- Maintain a positive learning environment while assisting students in building their confidence, knowledge, and abilities in their studies.
- In consultation with Learning Services Instructors, seek any clarification needed from program instructors to meet course expectations.
- In consultation with the Learning Services and/or program instructor(s), be reflective of and responsive to accommodation of diverse learning needs, including equity groups and English language learners, through the use of appropriate instructional methodologies.
- Provide support to Learning Services instructors as directed which includes, but is not limited to, recording and maintaining quantitative records; and researching and collecting student friendly support and reference materials.
- Work cooperatively in an interdependent team environment.
- Participate in mentorship and training sessions.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with employer and educational requirements.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

Grade 12 or equivalent and relevant experience in writing and academic skills.

Minimum of 6 months’ experience in the last 2 years as a tutor in online and/or in person learning environments.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Ability to function as team member in an ever-changing environment.

Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
