Position Details: Title: Technical Business Analyst Capital markets and Data analytics Duration: 6-month contract + opportunity to extend Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 4 day's in office) Start Date: ASAP Compensation: $90-$95/hour
Key Focus Areas: Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering: Partner with Treasury, Trading, Risk, and Operations teams to define and document business requirements, process flows, and user stories. Data & SQL Analysis: Conduct complex data validation and analysis using SQL to support business requirements, migration activities, and reporting accuracy. Agile & Scrum Leadership: Facilitate agile ceremonies, manage backlog, and track delivery milestones. Stakeholder Management: Act as liaison between business users and technical teams, ensuring smooth communication, progress visibility, and delivery accountability. Collateral Readiness: Build a foundation within Treasury to later transition into collateral management initiatives (expected in ~6 months).
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Engage with business stakeholders (Treasury, Trading, Risk, Collateral) to capture business needs and translate them into detailed functional specs and user stories. Collaborate with developers (Matthew’s team) to ensure business requirements are technically feasible and well-understood. Perform data validation and analysis (30%) using advanced SQL (joins, group by, subqueries) to support data migrations and quality checks. Manage business stakeholder engagement (70%), ensuring deliverables are on track and blockers are addressed. Lead agile ceremonies - daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives - and ensure continuous improvement. Track delivery status and identify upstream/downstream dependencies. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of workflows, requirements, and sprint outcomes.
Must-Haves: 5-8 years’ experience as a Business Analyst within Capital Markets or Treasury environments. 3+ years’ hands-on experience in collateral management (preferably migration or integration projects). Strong understanding of trade lifecycle and collateral management processes (margining, settlements, optimization). Advanced SQL skills (joins, subqueries, group by) for data validation and analysis. Proven experience acting as a Scrum Master or Project Manager, managing sprint cycles and backlog prioritization. Ability to write detailed user stories and acceptance criteria. Experience in data migration projects and working closely with developers. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills - able to work directly with business users.
Nice-to-Haves / Preferences: Exposure to Treasury/Trading systems, risk engines, or collateral platforms. Agile certification (CSM, PSM). Familiarity with data product review and governance practices. Experience balancing both BA and PM responsibilities.
