Heritage Sites Carpenter - Term Department: Heritage Location: Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Offices – Dawson, YT Posting Date: April 22, 2026 Standard Hours Bi-Weekly: 75 Start Date: Immediately End Date: October 30, 2026 Salary: Level 6 Step 1 ($3,089.25 bi-weekly) Closing Date: Until Filled Reporting to the Heritage Sites Coordinator, this position is responsible for carrying out various restoration and contemporary carpentry projects at the Heritage Sites, restoration and conservation of historic buildings, and construction and maintenance of contemporary structures on the sites. The incumbent will be called in on a project specific basis and will be required to work independently on various projects and as part of the team when working at the sites. This position will range from traditional carpentry and preservation techniques needed to work on historical buildings to modern building techniques for contemporary buildings and structures in accordance with currents codes and building principles. In almost every occasion the incumbent will be required to travel, stay, and work at remote sites. The incumbent may be required to provide monitoring and direction to apprentices and general labourers. An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires. Essential Qualifications: Completion of Grade 10 with a minimum of the First Year Carpentry Apprenticeship, history of working and living in remote sites, history of working on unconventional carpentry projects, such as trail structures. An equivalent combination of education, experience and skills may be considered. Commencement of the Red Seal Carpentry certification process. Knowledge of and ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools. Knowledge of hazards and safe work practices with respect to general building maintenance. Knowledge and experience of living and travelling in remote sites, operating ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, and setting up and maintaining a remote camp. Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions, preferably specific to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. Knowledge of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in traditional territory and heritage sites. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Conditions of Employment: Criminal Records Check. First Year completion of Red Seal Carpentry Program. Standard First Aid Certification; willingness to take Advanced Wilderness First Aid. Completion of Chainsaw Safety course and Bear Aware. ATV safety or willingness to obtain. TH101 Cultural Awareness training. A detailed job description is available upon request.
