Air Canada’s global network is evolving and adapting to technology changes, including the adoption of cloud‑based services, continual enhancement of existing technologies, and driving value from strategic investments. This position within Air Canada Network Services supports and contributes to the architectural development, implementation, and oversight of network solutions and network technology strategies, in alignment with established standards and technology roadmaps.

This role requires clear and concise communication with Air Canada IT and business unit teams, as well as external service providers, to ensure solutions address requirements and align with strategic directions and technology roadmaps.

The candidate will possess strong technical leadership and communication skills to simplify complex challenges, evaluate options, and present recommended solutions to a range of stakeholders.

This role is intended as a temporary backfill position, working alongside existing Network Solutions specialists to ensure continuity of delivery, operational support, and project execution.

This position reports to the Manager, Network Solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as well as support strategic technology and service direction across functional areas, including specialized or niche technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with peers and the broader Network Services team to support and maintain the IT strategic plan.
  • Ensure network solutions and services align with Air Canada’s business goals and objectives.
  • Support the development and execution of network strategy, policy, and service delivery frameworks, while contributing to continuous improvement of technology development processes.
  • Participate in the development and application of network infrastructure standards, ensuring performance, maintainability, security, availability, scalability, and operational readiness.
  • Support problem, defect, and incident management processes to ensure seamless operation of network infrastructure and cloud platforms.
  • Collaborate with peers and partner teams, such as Network Security, to support audit requests and evidence of compliance.
  • Liaise with key vendor partners to support the effective delivery and ongoing support of network infrastructure services.
  • Provide technical direction and input to the design, development, implementation, documentation, and support of network solutions.
  • Analyze solution requirements and contribute to functional and technical designs, acting as a subject matter expert where required.
  • Participate in Scrum time‑boxed activities and ceremonies.
  • Conduct technical feasibility assessments of proposed solutions based on current platform constraints.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, initiatives, and capabilities relevant to the Air Canada environment.
  • Participate in lifecycle activities including planning, architecture, implementation, testing, and operational readiness.
  • Contribute to the definition and application of standards for quality, maintainability, availability, scalability, and security.
  • Participate in business planning, roadmap discussions, and prioritization activities in collaboration with management and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Relevant university degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience commensurate with the role.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT technology and operations within a large enterprise environment, with demonstrated technical leadership through collaboration and influence.
  • Specialized knowledge in at least two network technology areas relevant to assigned solution domains, including:
    • Datacenter and Campus Networks
    • Wi‑Fi
    • Voice over IP
    • Next Generation Firewalls
    • Load Balancing
    • Wide Area Networks
  • Knowledge of current network technologies and industry trends.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, non‑technical manner.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in rapidly changing or uncertain environments.
  • Demonstrated openness and adaptability to new ways of working.
  • Takes accountability for outcomes and actively contributes to team and organizational objectives.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills using a structured and systematic approach.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours when required.
  • Linguistic competencies: proficiency in English, both verbal and written.

Conditions of Employment:

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of interest at the time any offer of employment is made and are responsible for obtaining any required work permits, visas, or other authorizations necessary for employment. Prior to their start date, candidates will also need to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the country of interest.
