Position Overview: The Lead, Materials & Trims Developer (contract) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Materials Research & Innovation team and our products and is a leader in executing and developing high quality trims that set us apart in the industry. By seamlessly integrating design thinking and innovation into every stage of material research, development, and commercialization, you'll ensure that our trims not only meet but exceed our brand's vision, sustainability goals, and quality standards across all product categories. Moreover, dedicating 10% of your time to the future of materials development ensures we stay at the forefront of industry trends and breakthroughs, propelling us towards even greater heights of excellence. About The Role: Act as the key consultant for material-related inquiries for all trims in our product range, providing guidance on material selection and development. Research and identify suitable sources for new trims developments, while guiding suppliers to translate vision into materials that meet commercial needs and sustainability goals. Initiate and guide trims developments, partnering with suppliers to ensure timely and successful commercialization to specifications, while adhering to development processes and fostering innovative thinking Work in close partnership with the Head Office / Paris office Trims team (depending on role location), collaborating on seasonal developments to ensure alignment on design intent, technical requirements, commercialization timelines, and providing regular weekly status updates. Analyze and interpret development test results, taking determined courses of action to address any issues or deviations from specification in partnership with PIC team. Maintain and publish material standard sheets for all new developments, ensuring accuracy and consistency of key information. Inform the team of approved and commercialized trims for bulk production assessment and execution. Record and review seasonal development performance summaries on key metrics, identifying areas for improvement and innovation. Build and maintain close relationships with cross-functional teams, including Design, Marketing, PDE, RMQA, PIC and Suppliers. Participate actively in brainstorming sessions and collaborative projects focused on identifying innovative materials concepts. Embrace a creative mindset, continuously seeking opportunities to elevate our material development process and/ or product offering through innovative approaches. Support and lead the associate developer in their role and participation on the Materials Research and Innovation team. About You: College or university degree in Textiles, Material Engineering, Fashion Design or a comparable field. Minimum of 2+ years working directly with Trims suppliers as a developer Minimum of 3+ years of experience in Materials Development or Apparel Design, preferably within the outdoor or luxury apparel industry. Background in materials within the Apparel or Textile industry, with knowledge in design thinking and innovation integration. Knowledge of outerwear, technical apparel Ability to anticipate problems, offer solutions, and address issues with materials to meet aesthetic goals and financial targets, incorporating sustainability principles. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across functions and present confidently to diverse audiences. Excellent organization and multitasking abilities, with proficiency in MS Office applications and previous experience with PLM systems. Comfortable working independently and in a fast-paced environment with dynamic workflows. Strong project management skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. Understanding of Illustrator, Photoshop and/or other drawing software Working Conditions: Combination of home and office environment. Approximately 5% international and domestic travel required for supplier meetings and material development initiatives. What’s in it For You?
