About the role

ABOUT THE LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION COUNCIL (LMIC) The LMIC is a team of passionate and skilled professionals striving to strengthen the pan-Canadian labour market information ecosystem to meet the evolving and diverse needs of Canadians. We aim to help Canadians make informed decisions by providing quality, relevant, comprehensive data and insights across the pan-Canadian LMI ecosystem. This facilitates better-informed decision-making by employers, workers, job seekers, researchers, policymakers, educators, career practitioners, students, parents, equity-seeking groups, and other stakeholders.

This work is performed in the context of a rapidly changing labour market ecosystem, including evolving government/stakeholder needs and products, the availability of high-frequency ‘big data,’ and the growth of private sector LMI providers. LMIC analysis, products, activities, and strategy recommendations must be informed by valid, up-to-date, relevant, and accurate information that reflects the dynamic nature of these factors and their associated interactions.

Our efforts are guided by engagement with federal, provincial and territorial governments, intermediary service organizations, academic researchers and private-sector partnerships.

More information about the LMIC and its projects is available at https://lmic-cimt.ca.

WORK REQUIREMENTS LMIC is seeking an experienced and proactive public relations and communications professional to support and strengthen the organization's growing PR function during an 18-month parental leave coverage term. This temporary full-time employee position offers an opportunity to play a key role in advancing LMIC's strategic communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement efforts across Canada.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this role will oversee day-to-day PR and media relations activities while contributing strategic recommendations, outreach opportunities, and process improvements that support LMIC’s broader communications objectives.

The successful candidate will help position LMIC as a trusted and credible voice within the labour market information ecosystem through media outreach, thought leadership, external communications, and stakeholder engagement activities. This includes translating complex research and labour market insights into clear, accessible, and engaging content for diverse audiences.

This role requires someone who is highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment. The ideal candidate is confident managing competing priorities, identifying opportunities, and moving projects forward with minimal day-to-day direction while remaining aligned with organizational strategy and priorities.

The position will work closely with internal subject matter experts, leadership, and external partners to support integrated communications campaigns, research dissemination, and external visibility efforts aligned with LMIC’s broader marketing and communications strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Public relations execution and media relations: Support and strengthen LMIC’s public relations activities and media outreach efforts. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media contacts across relevant sectors. Develop and maintain targeted media lists aligned with LMIC’s priority audiences. Draft pitches, press releases, media responses, briefing notes, and related communications materials. Monitor media opportunities and identify timely outreach opportunities aligned with organizational priorities. Coordinate media interviews, requests, and related communications activities.

Thought leadership and external communications: Translate research findings and organizational priorities into accessible and engaging communications for external audiences. Draft and edit op-eds, key messages, speaking points, external communications materials, and thought leadership content. Work closely with internal subject matter experts and leadership to support external storytelling and visibility opportunities. Support the promotion and dissemination of LMIC research, tools, events, and organizational initiatives.

Integrated communications and campaign support: Support campaigns tied to research launches, organizational announcements, and strategic initiatives. Coordinate PR activities with broader digital, social media, and marketing and communications efforts. Help ensure consistency across external messaging, marketing and communications materials, and brand positioning. Contribute ideas and recommendations that strengthen LMIC’s visibility, credibility, and thought leadership.

Performance and reporting support: Contribute to the development and improvement of PR workflows, templates, tracking systems, and supporting documentation. Track media coverage, outreach efforts, and PR performance metrics. Support reporting and evaluation activities related to communications and PR performance. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, coordination, and media engagement processes.

Stakeholder engagement and organizational support: Support external engagement with partners, stakeholders, and collaborators across the labour market information ecosystem. Contribute to proactive reputation management and communications planning activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE DOMAINS 6–8 years of experience in public relations, communications, media relations, or a related field. Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French (bilingualism required). Strong writing, editing, and media relations skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently, identify opportunities, and bring forward proactive recommendations. Experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience supporting PR campaigns, media outreach initiatives, and external communications activities. Ability to translate complex, technical, or research-based information into clear, accessible content for public audiences. Experience collaborating across teams and working in a remote environment.

ASSETS Experience working in research, public policy, government, or knowledge-based organizations. Existing relationships with Canadian journalists, media outlets, or industry publications. Experience supporting thought leadership initiatives for senior leaders or subject matter experts. Familiarity with tools such as Cision, HubSpot, media monitoring platforms, and social media management tools. Experience working in a fully remote work environment.
