Mathematics Researcher (Masters/PhDs) - AI Training
About The Role
What if your deep knowledge of mathematics could directly shape how AI reasons through the world's most complex problems? We're looking for Mathematics Researchers to help train and improve cutting-edge AI models — designing rigorous problems, evaluating solutions, and pushing AI reasoning to its limits.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for mathematicians who want to do meaningful, intellectually stimulating work on their own schedule. If you hold a Master's or PhD in Mathematics and love the elegance of a well-constructed proof or a cleanly solved problem, this role was made for you.
Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Develop, solve, and review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance and conceptual depth Apply your expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related areas to design challenging, rigorous problem statements Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning and outputs for correctness, clarity, and rigor Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to improve model performance Ensure mathematical precision and depth across all deliverables Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
Holder of a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field Deep expertise in one or more core areas: algebra, calculus, statistics, or discrete mathematics Experienced with Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica for research or applied projects Naturally rigorous — you care about correctness, precision, and the quality of mathematical argument Clear, effective written communicator who can explain complex ideas with accuracy Fluent in English
Nice to Have
Prior experience with data annotation, data quality, or AI evaluation systems Background in academic research, mathematical publishing, or technical writing Familiarity with AI tools or machine learning concepts Experience working across multiple mathematical subfields
Why Join Us
Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually engaging work Apply your graduate-level expertise to problems that directly shape the future of AI reasoning Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
