About Athletics & Recreation
Sport and recreation have the power to change people's lives and build communities of engaged citizens. The Department of Athletics and Recreation’s mission is to champion the development of the whole student through sporting excellence and active wellbeing. Through this, we empower our varsity athletes to achieve their full potential both athletically and academically. With our recreation programs we focus on active wellbeing as a learning strategy, providing opportunities for students to thrive socially, personally and at their studies.
Our programs, along with our commitment to the communities we serve, foster a spirit of belonging and pride, and contribute to a civil and sustainable society. Be it in the sports arena, on the field, or in our athletic and fitness centers, we engage students, faculty and alumni beyond the classroom.
In the last five years, TMU’s teams have achieved historic firsts for rankings and championships. Meanwhile, they have reached new heights for academic achievement, such as overall athlete GPA, while breaking records with volunteer service hours. As a result, Bold alumni are people who make a difference wherever they go.
The TMU Bold operate 8 varsity teams on which 180 student-athletes compete nationally in U SPORTS, and an additional 22 departmentally supported teams which compete regionally and nationally in intercollegiate competition.
TMU Recreation is committed to supporting student health and wellness. There are over 400,000 visits each year to the RAC (Recreation & Athletic Centre) and the MAC (Mattamy Athletic Centre) where weight and cardio rooms, recreational studios, gymnasiums, pool, track, squash courts, arena, saunas and more can be accessed Through a dedicated fee that is part of tuition, students gain access to both facilities and all weekly fitness classes and intramurals. Over 34 competitive and recreational clubs are registered, and over 4,500 students participated in intramural programs in 2019.
The Opportunity
The Digital Marketing and Communications Administrator assists in the planning, development, implementation and execution of sports specific digital, social and PR communications through social media platforms and digital channels to enhance TMU Athletics & Recreation brand with a focus on the TMU Bold varsity athletics presence and reputation. This role will assist with initiatives that drive measurable results on shared goals related to increased attendance and participation in varsity games, recreation programs and increased engagement on social platforms. The Digital Marketing and Communications Administrator will also collect data on social media activities, report findings and participate in the development of content.
This role requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings (often past 10:30pm), and weekends to support approximately 150+ home and away games per year . March is the playoff season, which involves rapid execution and limited pre-planning time.
Qualifications

Completion of a post-secondary certificate in Communications, Digital Marketing, Sports Media, Sports Journalism, Sport Event Management, or a related sports communications field. A minimum of 2 years of experience planning and assisting with communications plans for sports-focused social media/digital marketing projects and sports media environments with the following requirements: Knowledge of OUA and U SPORTS landscape and familiarity with statistics for all varsity sports offered at TMU Knowledge of social media channels, platforms and emerging technologies. Knowledge of social media and analytics tools, proficiency in Office Productivity tools and Google apps. Knowledge of theory and application of graphic design, layout and composition as related to print material, visual communication, typography, computer software applications and the like. Knowledge of web publishing and associated tools. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong reporting skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Research ability to compile reports and interpret data. Good client service focus. Competency in office software, including databases. Must be able to work under pressure and coordinate multiple deadlines. Strong supervisory skills with overseeing a large and diverse student staff team. Additional Information (OPSEU)
