Join us and be part of a team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in our community.The Role Supervises on-street transit services and operations based on assignment, including: day-to day on-street operations and dispatch, administration, operator recruitment and training, and performance management programs. Responds to operator and customer service issues.  Assignments include: •    Service Delivery •    Performance Management •    Workforce Development •    Service Administration   Duties/Responsibilities

Supervises bus operators based on assignment (conventional and specialized). Monitors operator performance to ensure compliance with operational rules and regulations, including routing, scheduling, and customer relations. Recommends long-term suspension and termination to Assistant Manager.
Responds to and investigates customer complaints related to on-street transit services and operations.
Makes recommendations to management regarding operating policies and procedures.
Maintains effective communication links with union representatives and employees for area of responsibility.
Liaises with other divisional program areas (finance, marketing/communications, planning) to exchange program information. Liaises with ITS and procurement for equipment and supplies.
Backs up some of the duties of the Assistant Managers, as required.
Assumes the responsibilities of operators in emergency situations.    
Performs related duties as required.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of transit operations and administrative policies and procedures, normally acquired through a college diploma in business management, operations management, or related field, plus progressively responsible related experience.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, collective agreements, and related legislation (e.g., health and safety, Highway Traffic Act).
Experience and skill in organizing and coordinating the work of supervised staff.
Experience and skill in communication, human relations, and leadership to supervise, instruct, and train staff in specific work methods/procedures; respond to public complaints; participate in meetings; and participate as an effective team member.
Experience and skill in reading and interpreting policies, procedures, and collective agreements. 
Experience and skill in writing correspondence, training materials, and reports.
Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and transit operating systems.
Must have a valid class C driver's license with Z-air brake endorsement and acceptable driving record to operate regional vehicles, as required. Or, must have a valid G driver’s license and acceptable driving record upon hire and attain a valid class C driver's license with Z-air brake endorsement within probationary period. 
Ability to travel within and outside Waterloo Region. 
Must provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector police check.
Must be able to work rotating shifts anywhere between the hours of 4 a.m. and 3 a.m., including weekends and statutory holidays.
Ability to back up supervisors on other assignments, and rotate through assignments, as assigned.
Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
