Position Description
In this role, you will support and run programming in Marnie's Lounge Drop-In Evenings, helping create and maintain a welcoming and safe environment for patients and families.
As a Child Life Assistant, you will play a vital role in normalizing the hospital experience through play and interactive activities that reduce stress and promote emotional well-being. Working closely with Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLSs), you will help plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children, adolescents, and families visiting our family spaces.
Here's What You'll Get to Do:
- Conduct basic developmental screenings to ensure appropriate play activities for children.
- Collaborate with CCLSs and the greater healthcare teams to plan and support individualized patient needs.
- Deliver meaningful play opportunities that promote emotional safety and normalize the hospital setting.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate play programs for children, adolescents, and families.
- Maintain clean and safe play environments and materials in accordance with infection prevention and control policies.
- Support and work collaboratively with volunteers to enhance programming and ensure a positive experience for patients and families.
- Assist with department operations, including supply management, restocking, organization, storage, and delivery.
Here's What You'll Need:
- College diploma or certificate in a related discipline such as Recreation Therapy, Child and Youth Care, or Early Childhood Studies.
- Experience working with children and families, including planning and delivering activities for infants through adolescents.
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive and inclusive care to a diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-faith population.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within an acute care environment.
- Commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
Employment Type:
- 0.1 FTE Marnie's Lounge Evening shift
- One-year contract with potential for renewal
