Role Description The Mental Health & Wellbeing Therapist provides direct, student-centered therapeutic services to support mental health, resilience, and academic success. This contract, on-site role based in North Bay, ON, involves conducting individual and group counseling sessions, completing assessments, and developing evidence-informed treatment and wellness plans. The therapist collaborates with internal departments and external community partners to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and contribute to campus-wide mental health initiatives. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate clinical documentation, participating in case consultations, delivering workshops and psychoeducational programming, and responding to students in distress in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive manner. The role also involves contributing to prevention and early intervention strategies, supporting crisis response protocols, and promoting mental health resources and wellbeing services across the college. Qualifications Relevant clinical qualifications, such as a master’s degree in social work, counseling psychology, or a related mental health field, and eligibility for registration with a recognized regulatory body (e.g., College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Psychologists, or equivalent). Demonstrated experience providing individual and group counseling using evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches) in a postsecondary, community, or clinical setting. Knowledge of student development, suicide risk assessment and safety planning, crisis intervention, and best practices in campus mental health and wellbeing services. Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills, with the ability to build trust, maintain professional boundaries, and work effectively with a diverse student population. Experience working with equity-deserving populations and commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and anti-oppressive practice. Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, develop community partnerships, and contribute to mental health outreach, workshops, and wellness programming. Solid organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining clinical records, managing caseloads, and using electronic record systems in accordance with privacy legislation and ethical standards. Flexibility to adapt to changing student needs, sound professional judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning and adherence to professional codes of ethics.
