Daily Bread Food Bank works towards long-term solutions to end hunger and poverty and runs innovative programs to support individuals living on low incomes and experiencing food insecurity. Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food, and fresh-cooked meals to 129 member agencies and 205 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who’s Hungry report - an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change.
Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Reporting to: Manager, Finance and Payroll
Location: 191 New Toronto Street, Toronto, ON M8V 2E7
Term of Contract: Full-Time Contract for 8 weeks, 35 hours per week; the start date will be in First week of July 2026
Wage Rate: $18.75 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay
Working Conditions: 5 days On-Site
To be eligible, participants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students, youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
About the Role:
The General Accounting Clerk supports daily accounting and administrative tasks, including processing donations, preparing deposits, reconciling records, and assisting with invoices and payments. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in the financial operations of a non-profit organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare batches in excel worksheet for donation by Cash, Cheque and Credit cards on a daily basis and prepare bank deposits.
- Post donation income and AR payments in accounting software.
- Issue invoices to agencies for delivery charges.
- Reconcile donation income with bank statement.
- Match Purchase Order with delivery slips and invoices.
- Process purchase invoices after necessary paperwork is done.
- Prepare cheques for outstanding invoices on the due date.
- Communicate with other departments to collect information or paperwork.
- Perform other accounting, administrative, and support duties as required.
Education/Experience
- Ideal for candidates enrolled in programs related to accounting, finance, administration, and general business studies and/or related skills.
- Math skills and familiarity with basic accounting principles.
- Administrative accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of support tasks
