Exploration Geologist

Job type: Seasonal, Rotation-based

Location: Field-based

Reporting to: Lead Geologist

Hourly/Day Rate: $300-$425/day *based on 12hour field day

Job Purpose

The Exploration Geologist’s role is to traverse remote, undiscovered territory and collect valuable data by conducting geological fieldwork and performing other specialized field support work on different projects. The Exploration Geologist will work daily in the field with a Geological Technician to collect and interpret geological and sample information. This role’s critical contribution to the success of the company is to yield acute, consistent and accurate geological data that can be relied upon to identify and target areas of interest, leading to future drill programs and potential discovery of large mineral deposits.

This role requires initiative to promote a team-based culture of excellence that responsibly delivers sustainable value and growth for the GroundTruth team and the companies we support. Ongoing mentorship and growth within the company will be provided by the Lead Geologist and Project Geologist for continued professional development.

Job Overview & Direct Report

The job will involve fieldwork during active exploration projects, with a rotation-based schedule of approx. 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off *subject to change based on program needs, weather or other logistical constraints. The Exploration Geologist will report directly to the Lead Geologist on site.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Technical and Operational Reporting to the Lead Geologist
  • Participating in daily fieldwork activities including geological mapping, prospecting, sampling, geophysical surveys and drill programs on grassroots exploration programs.
  • Ensure that sample shipments are properly documented and shipped on a timely and consistent basis
  • Ensure that field data collection is accurate according to protocol and properly uploaded daily
  • Participate in the daily execution of all technical aspects of exploration programs, including prospecting and mapping field protocols, data collection methods and QA/QC
  • Keeping daily timesheet up to date
  • Other duties as assigned

Safety and Integrity Responsibilities

  • Ensure all the Companies Health and Safety protocols and procedures are followed.
  • Reporting all Hazards, Near Misses, Close Calls, Incidents, Injuries and Non-Conformances.
  • Adhering to all Safety Employee Rights and Responsibilities; including but not limited to, refusal of any unsafe work, whilst working towards a safe alternative.
  • Working competently, safely and professionally at all times: in the field, in camp and transit. Participating in daily Safety Meetings as well as After Action Shift summaries, and all Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
  • Wearing and maintaining all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure GroundTruth’s core values of social and environmental responsibility are visibly upheld to our clients, local communities and stakeholders to promote trust and a positive reputation.
  • Ensure professional conduct while on the project and when in nearby communities.
  • Be aware to ensure confidential matters are held as such and ensure transparency on communications to GroundTruth Management where appropriate.

Camp Responsibilities

The Exploration Geologist is responsible for:

  • Participating in maintaining a sanitary, safe and organized camp to foster an environment that

respects the well-being and health of all camp members.

  • Assisting with the assembly and tear down of wall tent camps to ensure safe and efficient

mobilization days.

  • Collaborating with camp members to share in the upkeep and daily chores of the camp including but not limited to cooking, cleaning, collection of firewood and collection and filtering of water to achieve a cohesive living environment with a fair distribution of camp chores.
  • Maintaining all camp equipment so it is available and working when needed. Ensuring all

electronic tools for the job (ie handheld devices and ICOM radios) are fully charged and ready

for the work day each morning.

Lifting and Physical Requirements-Field Component

This role requires a high degree of physical strength and stamina in order to perform the job responsibilities. Physical demands may include:

  • Lifting up to 50 Lbs. unassisted
  • Repetitive bending
  • Hiking on uneven/ mountainous terrain for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to cold and exposure to heat
  • Exposure to noise

Any medical conditions that may be serious in nature such as but not limited to; severe allergies,

breathing conditions, heart conditions, diabetes, epilepsy and others, are highly recommended to be

reported to the Safety Officer and Lead Geologist. It is important management knows what kind of care an individual may require in the event of an emergency.

Working Conditions

The Exploration Geologist position requires employees to work outside in various terrain and weather conditions. The weather conditions include but are not limited to; a temperature range of -35°C to +35°C, very dry to very humid climate, heavy rainfall, lightning storms, wind and snow. Terrain can vary from rolling hills to steep mountain sides that will be traversed on foot daily. A typical field season runs from mid-May to late October. Work days are 12-hour shifts that run 7 days a week for the duration of the project unless otherwise stated. Shifts are typically 28 days on and 10 days off (excluding travel days), however, changes happen frequently depending on contracts and logistical considerations. The project location may be reached by a variety of transportation methods such as; truck, helicopter, boat, fixed-wing aircraft or all-terrain vehicles. Every camp will be provided with a wall tent or tents of

similar structure depending on location, satellite internet and all other camp elements. Employees will be working and living in close quarters with the rest of their crew for the duration of the project. Extreme isolation in a wilderness setting is one of the perks of the job but is also one of the factors that increases the risks with this type of work. Wildlife is plentiful, including bears, moose, and wolves. Communication outside of and at camp may be limited as there is no cellphone service, and the satellite internet, if available, is not high-speed. Exploration projects are frequently remote and isolated. It is important to recognize that transportation between the project and the city may take upwards of 10 hours.

Gear Requirements

Exploration Field Gear provided by GroundTruth Exploration is to be used strictly for company fieldwork and will be assigned at the beginning of the season. All employees will be responsible for the maintenance and care of the gear.

Employees will be required to supply appropriate personal gear including work clothes, underlayers, work

gloves, full rain gear (jacket and pants), work boots with rigid ankle support, personal camping gear and a Leatherman or similar multi-tool knife. A complete list is included with your hiring package.

Position Requirements

  • Geology degree (BSc.)
  • Standard First Aid Level C, CPR & AED
  • Registered G.I.T (Geoscientist In Training) in a Canadian province or territory
  • Canadian Citizen or valid Canadian Permanent Resident
  • 1+ years of field experience
  • 3 geology-related and 1 personal reference included in resume mandatory

Position Additional Assets

  • Valid high level wilderness (WFR) or occupational first aid (OFA3)
  • XRF Certification
  • Valid PAL (Possession & Acquisition License)
  • Fluent or high proficiency in French +/- Spanish
  • US Citizen or valid US work permit
