About the Role
The Bachelor of Midwifery Program is seeking a qualified sessional theoretical instructor(s) to teach the following course(s).
MDWF 3151: Perinatal Complications and Consultations, Theory

September 3 to December 9; final exams December 11 to 22 - 48 Student Instructional Contact Hours

This three-hour weekly tutorial will be based on case situations that include more common complications of the childbearing period. Tutorials will be delivered using face-to-face, online or blended delivery.

This is a synchronous online course that meets on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.
MDWF 2001: Developing Midwifery Skills, Lab
- September 3 to December 9; final exams December 11 to 22 - 24 Student Instructional Contact Hours
- This three-hour weekly in-person lab focuses on beginning-level midwifery skill development and is co-taught with another instructor
- This is a synchronous in-person lab that meets on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
Responsibilities

Instruction: course delivery including lecture or lab preparation/delivery, course outline, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course Brightspace Learning Management System (D2L) site;

Assessments: Written assignments, quizzes, tests, group projects

Administration: manage course documents and grading through the Brightspace D2L Learning Management Platform, input final grades upon course completion.
Qualifications for Didactic Midwifery Courses
BMID contract faculty, also referred to as sessional instructors, must meet the following criteria:

Degree in midwifery or related field
- Minimum master’s degree for Theory Courses (MDWF 3151) and Bachelor’s degree for Lab and Clinical Courses (MDWF 2001 - Lab)
- If the graduate degree is not in midwifery, then an associate or bachelor’s degree in midwifery is required

Five years of current full-time midwifery experience

Active registration with the College of Midwives of Alberta or another Canadian midwifery regulatory body

May have inactive midwifery registration for a period up to two years if recently on leave (i.e., parental leave or retirement) from full-time active midwifery practice
