Position: Food Hamper Kitchen Support Worker
(temporary contract June 29, 2026 – October 2, 2026)
Location: 40 Begbie Street, New Westminster, B.C.
Salary: $18.25/hour
Hours: Monday, Thursday and Friday
7:30 am – 2:00 pm or until work is finished

The Opportunity
We are seeking a mature individual who has experience in the organization and budgeting of a home kitchen preferably with experience with different age groups and people from different cultures. Someone who is also tolerant and accepting of street entrenched folks and/or people who are struggling with poverty, mental illness, and addiction.
As part of a team of volunteers and other food hamper workers, you will support the Purpose Society Food Hamper Program to provide supplemental groceries to food insecure individuals and families.
What You’ll Do

Create perishable food hampers for delivery to clients according to client information and dietary restrictions.

Create boxes of perishables for a variety of other distribution aspects of the program (e.g., health van, clinic, health contact centre, drop-in and Friday market).

Receive and sort perishable food donations so as to maximize the use of these donations.

Demonstrate a creative and flexible approach in the use and distribution of the perishables, across all the different aspects of the program, that is dependent on demand, availability and over/under abundance.

Maintain organization, cleanliness and tidiness of all areas of the kitchen.

Co-ordinate with workers in the non-perishable part of the program.

Train volunteers
What We Are Looking For

Be able to lift maximum 50lbs

Experience in food preparation

Proven organizational skills

Knowledge of recycling processes and the disposal of food that apply in a kitchen

Be able to work as a team player

Communicate clearly and effectively

Food Safe certificate is an asset
