Responsibilities

This is a four (4) month assignment it will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers and others in different departments in the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the engineering department at BCRTC.

This position will assist Engineering in various projects related to maintaining and operating BCRTC guideway and rail assets, research of mechanical issues on guideway and wayside elements, research and development of design standards and process improvements and compliance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mechanical Engineering Student - Third or Fourth year preferred with strong academic background in mechanical engineering

Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks and competence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Valid BC class 5 driver’s license

Currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary Mechanical Engineering Program at a BC university

Previous co-op experience is a strong asset

Previous industrial experience is an asset

Safety first attitude

Excellent verbal communication and writing skills

Proven interpersonal and leadership skills

Positive and self-motivated

Strong organizational and analytical skills

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Proficient in the use of computer systems and software

The desire to progress, learn, grow, and succeed

Demonstration of excellent grades

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

This co-op position includes a combination of field-based and office-based work. Candidates must be comfortable and willing to work in both environments.

Field work may include activities such as track work and site visits, which can involve working outdoors and in active operational settings.

Office-based responsibilities may include data analysis, SolidWorks (or similar CAD) modeling, and reviewing test data.

Students may also support noise measurement activities and other testing programs, both in the field and in office settings.

Flexibility and a willingness to engage in hands-on technical tasks as well as analytical work are essential for success in this role.

This co-op placement is initially a 4-month term, with the potential for a 4-month extension, contingent on performance and funding availability.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This is a full-time temporary position for approximately four (4) months.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $65,600 - $98,400 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
