Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute required.
- Four years of directly-related experience required.
EXPERIENCE:
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in French and English and knowledge of some specialized vocabulary in both languages required.
- Proficiency with introductory to intermediate functions in various software programs, including spreadsheets, and databases required.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete complex secretarial, clerical or basic accounting routines required.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Strong communication skills – ability to share information in a professional, effective and collaborative manner is required.
Key responsibilities
- Communicating with students.
- Communicating with funding providers.
- Scheduling meetings for co-Directors, classes, community engagement.
- Managing shared inbox (Franjur).
- Administering surveys on behalf of funders.
- Drafting reports to funders and government submissions.
- Drafting applications for Program funding (ie Justice Canada, ACUFC).
- Finding relevant material for collaboration with partners (ie material available in English on the website of the Law Society).
- Organizing bursary applicants and assessing eligibility against specific criteria for review and making recommendations to the co-Directors.
- Tracking expenditures for Justice Canada grants and endowment fund and working in coordination with finance staff in the faculty.
- Placing promotional materials in French publications, in Manitoba and neighbouring provinces, under guidance from the co-Directors.
- Organizing events (using university and community locations), including determining available dates, room booking catering, invitations, etc., for students as well as for lawyers and community partners.
- Coordinating activities with community partners for students and directors (for example, arranging a walking tour of St Boniface to build understanding of the history of language rights in Manitoba as well as cultural competence for serving the French-speaking newcomers, coordinating with all the community partners we visit on the tour to arrange timing, samples of their products or services, etc).
- Other duties as assigned.
