Whereas the nature of a Casual Student Attendant role requires timely deployment to work on short-notice, it is expected that those named to our supply list will live within ASD-W boundaries and a reasonable proximity to selected schools.

ASD-W Student Attendant Roles and Responsibilities
The work of a Student Attendant (SA) is of limited complexity. The SA primarily attends to the physical needs of the learner.
The role of an SA includes:
- Attending to the physical needs of exceptional learners.
- Use a variety of adaptive equipment to support the learner.
- Willingness to be trained and understand augmentative communication devices as needed.
- Assisting learners with transportation.
- Physically assisting learners on community visits.
- Physically assisting learners at work locations.
- Supporting learners entering and leaving the building.
- Supporting learners moving around the school.
- Assistance with feeding.
- Assistance with hygiene.
- Assistance with clothing and toileting.
- Care of catheterized learners.
- Assistance with general supervision of learners.
- General support of learners.
- The ability to read and write
- The ability to understand and relate to exceptional learners.
- A willingness to be trained to support learners with exceptional needs.
The role of the SA does not include:
- Assisting teachers in the performance of their duties.
- Assisting in preparation of learning aids and the assembly of materials as directed by the teacher.
- Assisting with maintaining records.
- Generally assisting teachers with functions that fulfill their instructional, social, or behavioural goals.
- Provide support to learner(s) in achieving their goals.
- Collect data and observations requested by the educator(s).
- Provide academic supports or tutoring to learners.
- Collaborate with educator(s) to schedule opportunities to discuss learner(s) goals.
- Implementing academic or behavioural programming as stated in the learner’s PLP.
- An SA cannot perform the regular duties of an Educational Assistant.
