Job Summary

The Team:
The BC Geological Survey team is a close-knit group of geoscientists, researchers, and technical specialists who work together to build and share trusted knowledge about British Columbia’s geology. Their work from the field, the lab and the office, supports responsible resource development, informed land use decisions, and public understanding by producing high-quality data, maps, and insights that are used across government, industry, and communities.

The Role:
The Mineral Deposit Geoscience Assistant plays a hands-on role in bringing geoscience data to life, working closely with project geologists to collect, organize, and interpret valuable information. From laboratory work and GIS mapping to supporting field activities and contributing to publications, this role blends technical skill with curiosity and collaboration. It’s a great opportunity to support meaningful geological research while keeping safety and quality at the forefront of every task.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate university program in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geography or equivalent from a post-secondary institution of recognized standing.
  • Experience using a broad range of computer software (MS Office, GIS, graphics, database management, and statistical analysis).
  • Experience in the compilation, evaluation, synthesis, and interpretation of geological, geochemical, and/or geochronological data.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Recently completed their undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Experience working with government geoscience programs/field projects.
  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

About this Position:
There is currently one temporary, full time position available to March 31st, 2027.
This is an externally funded position with no possibility of extension.
This position is located in Victoria.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
