The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services (“PSES”) has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA).

About The Alberta Sheriffs Police Service

The Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) was created in July 2025, and once operational, will strengthen Alberta’s existing policing model and complement the province’s current police services, which includes the RCMP, Indigenous policing services and municipal police. It will help fill gaps and ensure law enforcement resources are deployed efficiently to meet Alberta’s evolving public safety needs and improve law enforcement response times, particularly in rural communities.

Role

This is an opportunity for a seasoned, forward-thinking leader to help shape something significant: the future of the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service.

Reporting to the Chief, the Executive Director, Organizational Strategy & Performance will bring creativity, structure, and strategic discipline to a Service that is evolving with purpose and ambition. For a leader who sees possibility in complexity, this role offers space to innovate translating bold ideas into practical systems, sharper governance, stronger performance, and measurable progress across the organization.

The successful candidate will be someone who can challenge conventional thinking with confidence, energize teams around a clear vision, and build the planning, alignment, and accountability frameworks needed for a modern policing environment. Working alongside senior leaders, operational divisions, government partners, and communities, the Executive Director will connect strategy to action and help ensure ASPS is positioned to meet emerging public safety demands with agility, credibility, and impact.

For an experienced leader ready to bring fresh energy, innovative thinking, and a builder’s mindset, this is a rare chance to leave a lasting imprint on a growing provincial police service and the communities it serves. You bring executive level competencies, including adaptability, agility, and inclusive, decisive leadership.

Qualifications

As Executive Director, you bring extensive senior/executive leadership experience, and you are a seasoned strategic leader with vision, discipline, and creative edge to help build a modern policing organization from the inside out. You bring senior experience in planning, performance, governance, organizational transformation, or similarly complex public sector environments. You have senior leader experience leading enterprise level initiatives and managing strategic functions, planning and business cycle within leadership teams.

Innovative and practical in equal measure, they can design enterprise-wide frameworks that sharpen alignment, measure progress, and turn bold ideas into meaningful action. They are confident advising executive leaders, translating complex issues into clear recommendations, and using evidence, insight, and curiosity to solve problems before they become barriers. Experience with performance reporting, continuous improvement, public safety partnerships, and change leadership will be essential, as will the ability to energize teams, foster accountability, and lead with credibility in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.

A combination of related education and experience will be considered.

Salary

$5,896.65 to $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902.60 to $202,256.20 annually)

Notes
