Invites applications for the position of:

Payroll Assistant

Temporary 6 Month Contract

(with the possibility of extension)

Exempt Level 4 - $65,295 - $83,680 per annum

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Accounting Payroll and Benefits, the Payroll Assistant performs various duties and tasks to assist and support the Payroll and Benefits Department.

Major Responsibilities:

The following duties are representative of performance expectations:

  • Review, validate and process bi-weekly payroll data (including timesheets) in SAP in accordance with collective agreements for all Board employees.
  • Administer and calculate various benefit payments including Maternity Supplementary Benefit for staff, travel allowances and home instruction ensuring that all necessary deductions have been applied.
  • Responsible for data transfer to Government of Canada as well as resolving all issues and investigation queries related to data transferred.
  • Maintain payroll processes documents and records for audit purposes.
  • To support the automated online timesheet system.
  • Review, revise and update department information on the Board’s internal website as required.
  • Respond to employee inquiries.
  • Administer ESL payroll.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of previous payroll and benefits work experience.
  • Accounting diploma or payroll courses /certificate.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Intermediate to advanced working level knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
  • Well organized and attentive to details.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and maintains a positive work attitude.
  • Takes the initiative to identify and solve problems independently.
  • Works cooperatively to support a successful team effort.
  • Communicates effectively using verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills.
  • Reacts productively to interruptions and changing conditions.
