The City of Orillia is less than 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the contract position of Labourer - Water/Wastewater.

Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater and Pumping Stations and the Manager of Water Treatment to perform various duties and assist with the operation and maintenance of the Water Filtration Plant, Wastewater Treatment Centre, and pumping stations.
Candidates must possess minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, a valid class ‘G’ drivers license with an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
The City of Orillia offers a competitive wage and benefits package, and registration with the OMERS pension plan. This is a Unionized position. The wage range for this position is $22.58 to $26.71 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. Position Synopsis and Purpose
Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater and Pumping Stations and the Manager of Water Treatment to perform various duties and assist with the operation and maintenance of the Water Filtration Plant, Wastewater Treatment Centre, and pumping stations.

Programs/Service Delivery
- Assist with the operation and maintenance at the Water Filtration Plant, Wastewater Treatment Centre, and pumping stations.
- Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of operating equipment and facilities including heavy lifting, shoveling and various maintenance duties.
- Assist with facility maintenance, such as cutting grass and shoveling snow.
- Assist with testing, recording and monitoring all Water Treatment and Distribution and Wastewater sampling as required to ensure compliance with Regulations.
- Assist with the development of planned and demand maintenance plans and schedules, and deliver the works as planned.
- Use and provide user feedback regarding the City's computerized maintenance management system.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Work Work in accordance of all City policies, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and Ministry of Labour guidelines.

Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
Minimum Qualifications
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.

Operator-In-Training Certificates for Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection, and Water Distribution and Supply required.

Completion of the Entry Level Drinking Water Course an asset.
Experience
-
Previous experience with physical works an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

Demonstrated computer skills and experience in a Windows environment.

Organizational, record-keeping; verbal communication and written communication skills.

Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of household chemicals, maintenance, and cleaning products.

Ability to work as a team player and must get along well with others including those of different cultural, gender and nationality.

Safety training including WHMIS, confined space, Basic First-Aid and CPR.
Physical Demands

Physical demand requires work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.

Physical demand requires standing, walking, lifting heavy objects with no undue fatigue.
