TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT POSITIONS

The Avon Maitland District School Board is currently accepting applications for both permanent and temporary Educational Assistant positions at various locations.

Important Notice: This is the final EA posting for the 2026/2027 school year staffing process; no further applications will be accepted after this round. Please be aware that while some locations do not currently have openings, additional sites may open up as staffing progresses, please select all you are interested in being considered for.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, 10 months per year (1.0 FTE)

17.5 hours per week, 10 months per year (0.5 FTE)

Start Date: September 2, 2026

Rate of Pay: $28.11 - $30.79 per hour plus 4% vacation pay as outlined in the OSSTF-ESSP Collective Agreement as of September 1, 2025.

Vacancy Status: current vacancy

Depending upon school/program needs, duties will vary from site to site. Flexibility is essential, as assignments will involve working with students who require varying degrees of behavioural and physical support. Assignments may shift between different educational settings based upon evolving needs of the school. Additional related duties may be assigned as required.

The Ideal Candidates Will Possess

Minimum two-year college level certificate or diploma in the educational assistant or related field, and equivalent experience; and, Current BMS certification. The ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position, including but not limited to, lifting, toileting and transferring students and supporting associated mobility equipment; Proven successful experience in providing consistent daily support for students with behavioural, physical and developmental supports; Expertise implementing effective behaviour management strategies and the ability to be flexible to support students with multiple needs; Demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively as part of the school team; The ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment; Good oral and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal and professional skills; Understanding and commitment to confidentiality;
