This position is for an existing position. This could result in a permanent position after the 1 year contract position.

Summary

Ridge K.ID.S. requires that an Assistant Supervisor to be responsible for all the duties of a program Early Childhood Educator (ECE) as required and additional duties as an assistant to a Supervisor.

This position will be required to work a before or after school program at a location to be determined.

The remainder of the Assistant’s day will be used for mentoring and replacing staff for programming time. The Assistant Supervisor may be called into programming, if staffing ratios require it.

RECE Job Duties

  • Develop and deliver age appropriate programs.
  • Supervise, guide and assist children in daily activities.
  • Provide a safe and happy environment.
  • Record necessary information pertinent to each child.
  • Ensure activities adhere to the governing childcare act(s).
  • Maintain equipment and assist in housekeeping duties.
  • Read each individual child's files in his/her class and be knowledgeable about his/her medical and developmental histories.
  • Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
  • Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
  • Follow and implement Ridge K.I.D.S. Program Statement
  • Maintain ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
  • Maintain good communication with parents through the use of electronic journals or daily sheets, notes and/or verbally.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children
  • Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behaviour management techniques through daily contact with children and staff in the classroom.
  • Select books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the program.
  • Include materials and experiences in the classroom that are culturally appropriate and represent diversity.
  • Maintain accurate attendance of children.
  • Participate in team planning sessions as needed to ensure well-coordinated and effective delivery of programs.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
  • Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development.
  • Be sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of current child development practices.

Assistant Supervisor Duties

  • Work with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Act as a mentor to all existing and new staff.
  • Supervise and provide leadership and support for early childhood educators.
  • Source out materials and supplies for staff as needed within the budget provided
  • Assume the position and duties of a site Supervisor during absences as instructed by the Assistant Director or Director.
  • Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Assist with other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • College diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Current Member in Good Standing with the College of ECE
  • Current Vulnerable Persons Sector criminal background check.
  • TB test required upon hiring
  • Health Assessment and up to date immunizations required.
  • Proficiency in one of Canada's official languages – English or French.
  • Fluency in other languages an asset.
  • Standard First Aid certification required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of energy.
  • High levels of patience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Ridge K.I.D.S. policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of school board policies, compliance regulations and appropriate legislation.
  • A broad knowledge of child development and teaching methods.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks.
  • Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners.

Work Conditions

  • Regular to frequent requirement to lift children (up to 45 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking.
  • Noise level can be moderate to loud.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting children.
  • Maybe required to work alone in a program.
  • Overtime as required.

Must have reliable transportation for travel to all sites
