The Department of Chemistry is seeking Contract Academic Staff to teach the following course at Brandon University for the 2026 – 2027 academic year.

18:214 Environmental Chemistry, Section A00, 3 credit hours

Environmental chemistry is the study of the chemical processes that govern the composition, structure, and transformation of natural and contaminated environments. As anthropogenic pressures reshape our environment, understanding these processes is critical for addressing complex issues facing our planet. This course builds on foundational principles of chemistry. Students will explore the chemistry of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and terrestrial systems, with emphasis on reaction mechanisms, speciation, redox transformations, photochemistry, and sorption processes. By the end of the course, students will be expected to interpret chemical behaviours in the environment. The overarching aim of this course is to equip students with conceptual and practical tools through a chemical lens.

3 lecture hours per week, Winter term classes run from January 5 to April 9, 2027, with an exam period following.

Currently scheduled in Slot 5: Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 12:40 pm – 1:30 pm

Qualifications:

• A PhD in Chemistry is preferred; Masters’ Degree in Chemistry is required. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
• Prior successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in the specified area would be an asset.
• Knowledge and experience with Instructional Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, D2L) would be an asset.

Salary: $8,132.00 per 3 credit hour course
