POSITION

Worksite: Kwiyeqel Secondary School – SD33 Learning Centre (Storefront)

**Contract Type:**Temporary, Full-Time - Secondment

Assignment Area(s): Generalist – Grade 9 – 12 Academic and Elective Courses (Examples include, but are not limited to English 9, English Studies 10 - 12 and English First Peoples 10 - 12, Math 9, Workplace Math 10 & 11, Science 9 and 10, Social Studies 10, PHE 1-, & Visual Arts 10)

Salary Range: $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2028

Due to the specialized nature of this position, the successful applicant, if currently a continuing appointee with the Chilliwack School District, may be “seconded” to this position thereby having the assurance to return to their former position.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.

  • Knowledgeable about and demonstrated ability to devise a variety of assessment processes that effectively allow students to demonstrate what they know, can do, and understand

  • Strong understanding of the Ministry of Education's secondary curriculum, with the ability to deliver competency-based learning in flexible, non-traditional settings that meet alternate education student needs.

  • Demonstrated success engaging, supporting, and motivating at-risk and disengaged learners through relationship-based practice, strength-based approaches, and an understanding of adolescent development.

  • Demonstrated ability to use trauma-informed and social/emotional learning strategies to create safe, respectful learning environments that maintain student dignity.

  • Proven ability to differentiate instruction and assessment to meet diverse learning needs, including adapting/modifying curriculum and supporting students through an RTI lens.

  • Knowledge of inclusive practices and experience supporting students with informal adaptations and formal plans (e.g., Competency-Based IEPs/CBIEPs).

  • Commitment to Indigenizing curriculum and practice, guided by the First Peoples Principles of Learning, and working respectfully with Indigenous students, families, and support teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with school-based and district support teams (e.g., Inclusion, counselling, Indigenous Education, SBT/LAT/RT) as well as families and community partners.

  • Strong classroom/program management and organization skills (procedures, time management, communication, problem solving) to support credit completion, attendance, and student success.

  • Effective use of technology to support instruction, assessment, and consistent communication with students and families, along with an ongoing commitment to professional learning.
