This is a Temporary contract for up to Eighteen (18) Months

Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Nurse Educator ,Wound Care to support our Nursing Education team.

Education

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) role utilizes a graduate educational preparation, in-depth nursing knowledge and expertise in meeting the health needs of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations. It involves:

Analyzing and synthesizing knowledge; Understanding, interpreting and applying nursing theory and research Developing and advancing nursing knowledge and the profession as a whole providing leadership and promoting excellence in patient focused clinical care in collaboration with the patient, family and interprofessional team (CNA, 2008)

As a member of the interprofessional team, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) in Wound Care will function as a specialized hospital wide clinical resource, who provides expert clinical consultation (assessment, collaboration, education, interventions), and care planning for complex wounds, ostomies and continence. The CNE is expected to provide leadership, mentorship, education and support to the nursing, medical and health discipline staff. As a member of the Professional Practice and leadership teams, the CNS will also lead evidence based practice for our clinical teams, and the development of standards and quality initiatives enhancing safe high quality patient and caregiver centred care.

In This Role You Will

Provide comprehensive assessments to identify symptoms, underlying health conditions, physical, functional, emotional and cognitive status, home environment issues and home supports needed for patients with complex wounds and ostomies Analyze patterns of patient responses and needs within a complex population and develops strategies to create unit, organization and system based changes to optimize wound and ostomy healthcare outcomes Coordinate and lead innovative training programs for family and/or caregivers of patients with ostomies and complex wounds Provide advanced practice clinical consultation and support to the organization regarding wound and ostomy issues Facilitate knowledge translation in the clinical setting to support care in highly complex and unpredictable situations Support nursing practice in meeting the standards of care for patients living with ostomies and complex wounds through mentoring, role modelling, consultation and education. Facilitate the strategic and innovative program planning and evaluation of wound and ostomy care Incorporate and disseminate knowledge from continuous learning to advance and evaluate nursing practice Promote the role of wound and ostomy nursing through involvement in academic pursuits, professional associations and special interest groups Liaise with academic partners to develop and provide wound and ostomy care educational programs Use a wide range of strategies to encourage clinicians to engage in clinical inquiry Apply theories and principles of safety, project management and change management Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care through creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff Participate in recruitment and retention activities Utilize research and outcome data to formulate, evaluate, and/or revise policies, procedures, guidelines, standards of care, and programs, while developing and assessing wound and ostomy programs and services at all levels of the organization Critique, interpret, synthesize, utilize and disseminate evidence as it relates to wound, ostomy and continence nursing, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives Act as a principal investigator or collaborator with other health care team members to identify, conduct or support research that enhances wound and ostomy nursing care Identify the need for practice improvement to promote safe, effective and reliable care that has a positive impact on patient and system outcomes Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements

Mandatory

Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing Successful completion of a Master’s degree in nursing or related field from a CNO accredited academic institution Relevant specialty certificate or completion of Wound Care Education programs required e.g. Wound, Ostomy and Continence CNA Certification; International Interprofessional Wound Care Course (IIWCC-CAN); Wound, Ostomy and Continence Education Program (WOC-EP™); Wound Healing Master's Program) 3 years of clinical experience in wound care

Preferred

3 years or more of CNS or Advance Practice Nurse experience Member of RNAO Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution

Skills and Knowledge

Expert knowledge in a clinical nursing specialty Experience in developing, monitoring, and evaluating care plans created in collaboration with the interprofessional team; Program planning and evaluation methodology skills Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum development, and teaching learning strategies Demonstrated experience with knowledge transfer Experience in developing clinical tools such as policies/procedures, clinical protocols, order sets Demonstrated ability to lead and sustain change Knowledge of statistics and ability to analyse and synthesize fiscal and patient care data Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills Excellent decision making, problem recognition, problem solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills Commitment to collaborative and interprofessional practice Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Knowledge of Meditech or computerized documentation skills Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
