Backend Software Developer (Contract) Location: Montreal or Longueuil, QC Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) Duration: August 17, 2026 – December 31, 2026 (Approx. 4.5 months)
About the Role Seeking an experienced Backend Software Developer to join its Bike Share engineering team on a contract basis. In this role, you'll help build scalable backend services that power one of the world's leading bike-share platforms across 40+ markets. You'll collaborate with engineering, product, and account management teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software that enhances urban mobility.
Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Python. Build and implement new customer-facing features based on business requirements. Integrate existing systems with modern cloud-native components. Translate product requirements into technical solutions and implementation plans. Maintain and enhance existing backend applications for performance and reliability. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management and Technical Account Managers. Write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and scalable code. Required Qualifications 3+ years of backend software development experience. Strong proficiency in Java and Python. Experience with MySQL or other relational databases (RDBMS). Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or New Relic. Experience troubleshooting and resolving production issues. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with distributed systems or large-scale applications. Experience building SaaS platforms. French-speaking candidates are strongly preferred but not required.
