1.0 Centrally Employed – Secondary ESL Itinerant
Teacher
This is a
one-year term appointment commencing September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 with an
option of renewal annually.
Required
Qualifications
:

Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years
teaching experience as a member in the OECTA Secondary bargaining unit;

Qualifications in teaching Multilingual Learners; Teaching experience related to Multilingual Learners;

Qualifications in I/S English considered an asset;
-
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum, practices, strategies, resources and supporting documents which align with current pedagogy in literacy and numeracy;

Proven ability to lead and motivate collaborative work teams;

Experience using assessment tools considered an asset (e.g., STEP);

Strong literacy, numeracy, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
Reporting
to the Executive Superintendent of Education - Student Achievement K-12 or
designate. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with the Manager of Newcomer Services, school-based teams, and families to support academic programming and pathway planning for Multilingual Learners within secondary schools that offer ESL/ELD programs;
- Support implementation of research-based instructional practices in secondary ESL/ELD classrooms through modelling effective strategies and facilitating small-group instruction;
- Work closely with consultants and secondary ESL Support Teachers to support implementation of board programming and resources for Multilingual Learners, including UFLI and Lexia;
- Collaborate with content-area teachers to differentiate instruction and assessment in ways that support Multilingual Learners in developing language while learning curriculum;
- Conduct assessments for Multilingual Learners to appropriately assist in program planning and course selection;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the respective Executive Superintendent of Education-Student Achievement K-12 and Superintendent of Education Student Achievement K-12.
