As an Issue Strategist, you will work across City teams and with community partners to develop and implement strategic approaches, plans and policies that address emerging community and social issues and improve how systems and services work together. This role will primarily be focused on advancing equity initiatives across the organization. Primary duties include:
- Collaborate across Community Strategies and with other business units, community-based organizations, other government partners, and residents to develop and implement equity-driven approaches that improve access and outcomes in City service delivery.
- Communicate complex subject matter to multiple audiences and advocate where appropriate through a variety of mechanisms.
- Investigate and apply best practices and innovative approaches to address specific social and community issues.
- Act as a resource by providing informed advice based on research, best practice, and engagement.
- Lead groups with diverse interests and agendas toward common outcomes.
- Respond to emerging social issues identified by Council or Administration.
Qualifications
- A degree in social work, public administration, policy development or a related field and at least 7 years' experience in the areas of policy and program development, systems planning, project management, community development and/or government/partner relations; OR
- A master's degree in social work, public administration, policy development or a related field and at least 5 years' experience in the areas of policy and program development, systems planning, project management, community development and/or government/partner relations.
- Familiarity with trends and issues relevant to community is required.
- Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft programs (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is an asset.
- Lived experience as a member of an underrepresented community or experience working with and as an ally for persons from an underrepresented community is an asset.
- Understanding of the City's Social Wellbeing Policy and related Council Advisory committees is an asset.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem solving, change management, political acumen, data analysis, and project management skills.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships. Ability to negotiate and build consensus with diverse internal and external interested parties and influence without authority.
Note: Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to complete a work simulation exercise and prepare and deliver a presentation.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position Type: 4 Permanent & 1 Temporary (up to 18 months)
Compensation: Pay Grade 13 $50.92 - 68.15 per hour
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle
