DNV Maritime Region Americas offers fall work term 2006 opportunities. Are you ready to make a difference in the maritime industry?
DNV is now looking for students who are ready to join us for the upcoming Fall Semester beginning August 31 2026. We are primarily looking for seniors who want to join our fall work term within Maritime Business Area.
The work term position will last the full duration of the fall semester, approximately 16 weeks. You will have the opportunity to work within various relevant technical disciplines. Our ambition is to give you a broad technical foundation to pursue your career further.
At DNV Station St. John's, you will assist surveyors on classed vessels including mobile drilling units, dive support vessels, FPSO s, oil tankers, fishing vessels and anchor handling supply vessels to ensure their safety and integrity while in operation.
Our unit is appointed by the C-NLOER to act as certifying authority for multiple installations for Newfoundland and Labrador s offshore industry. As certifying authority, DNV Canada Ltd. is required to assess third party and temporary equipment intended for use offshore Newfoundland to verify that it is safe for use and fit for purpose.

This opportunity is available only at the DNV office location in St. John s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
What You'll Do
- Assisting surveyors in the office to perform surveys of vessels and offshore installation equipment as part of our certifying authority scope of work
- Attend vessels in operation with a member of our team and help them complete vessel inspections
- Partake in certifying authority work including witness of pressure testing, load testing, approval of welder qualifications and fabrication around greater St. John s and the Avalon area
- We will trust you to perform on an equivalent level as a graduated engineer
- Once sufficiently trained, you will be expected to coordinate surveys, witness and follow through on reporting with support from your mentors
- We are primarily hiring candidates studying Ocean Naval Architecture, Mechanical, and Oil and Gas Engineering, though we would consider candidates studying other engineering disciplines with relevant work term experience.

About you
What is Required
- Must be a senior level engineering student (i.e. Marine Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Navel Architecture, etc.) or related
- A valid driver s license and permanent access to a vehicle is mandatory for this position
- Must have high standard for quality of work
- Expected to travel within St. John s, Mount Pearl and metropolitan area, with occasional trips around the Avalon as and when required
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to adapt
- Must have good personal skills and ability to interact with external clients
