Job Summary and Requirements

This is for one (1) full-time term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly. Temporary Assignments may be considered.

The Land Management Branch is an effective steward of public land for the benefit of current and future generations of all Yukon people.

As part of the Land Use team, the Land Use Officer leads the review and analysis of permit applications for the use of public land. The position provides guidance for the acquisition of permits to the public and diverse client groups, leads the Government of Yukon’s input into the Yukon and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) for Land Use delegated project assessments, and makes recommendations to help inform the decision on YESAB evaluation reports. The Land Use Officer provides research, analysis and recommends solutions to complex land issues, provides input into the development of policies and legislation and participates on various committees.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in natural resource management, environmental science or a related field

  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, preferably in a government setting

  • Experience working with the public and diverse client groups within a legislative framework

  • Experience researching and analyzing complex issues

  • Experience working with environmental and socio-economic assessment processes

  • Experience working with the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA) is an asset
