Environmental Engineering - AI Data Trainer
About the role
Environmental Engineering – AI Data Trainer
About The Role
We partner with the world's leading AI research teams and labs to build and train cutting-edge AI models. Now we're looking for environmental engineering experts to help us make those models smarter, safer, and more technically rigorous.
Your domain knowledge — in water treatment, air quality, hazardous waste, and beyond — will directly shape how AI reasons through complex environmental problems. This is a rare opportunity to apply your graduate-level expertise in a high-impact, flexible freelance role at the frontier of AI development.
Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Design Advanced Problems — Craft technically rigorous environmental engineering challenges spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and more Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Develop step-by-step reference solutions including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations that serve as benchmarks for AI outputs Audit AI Responses — Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and technical calculations for accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001, and similar standards) Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify logical flaws in AI outputs — such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological processes or missing secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance Work on Your Schedule — Complete assignments independently and asynchronously, with full flexibility over when and how much you work
Who You Are
Pursuing or completed a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related field Strong foundational expertise in one or more core areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation Able to communicate complex technical and ecological concepts clearly in writing Precise and detail-oriented — especially when it comes to unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory compliance logic No prior AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed
Nice to Have
Experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, EPA models) Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting
Why Join Us
Work on cutting-edge AI projects with top research labs and organizations Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, from anywhere Freelance autonomy with the variety of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work Make a real impact — your expertise helps ensure AI gets environmental engineering right Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
